Urban Metal Installations
UMI fabricates and installs architectural metalwork — staircases, railings, panel systems, and custom patina finishes — for GCs, architects, and owners who don't want to think about it twice.
Mild steel, stainless, brass, and aluminum — cut, formed, and finished under one roof, with a vetted network for coating, galvanizing, and machining beyond that.
UMI is selective by design. We take the projects where craft, material, and finish actually matter — design, fabrication, and installation under one roof, coordinated start to finish by the same people. Every piece leaves the shop finished the way we'd want it in our own home.

Mild steel, stainless steel, brass, and aluminum, paired with Thermory, Accoya, and Ipe wood where a project calls for it. Finishes include blackened steel, polished and brushed brass, powder coating, and controlled patina.
Yes — floating steel stairs, spiral staircases, glass rail packages, and structural and decorative railings in steel and brass, for both residential and commercial projects.
That's the work we like most. One-off pieces, strange materials, odd geometry, repairs nobody else wants to take on — if it doesn't fit a normal category, call and describe it anyway. Custom fabrication means figuring out the thing that hasn't been made before.
Yes. UMI holds California contractor's license CSLB C-23 #1153405 (ornamental metal) and is based in Spring Valley, San Diego, CA.
Southern California — working directly with general contractors, architects, and property owners on architectural metal fabrication and installation.
Urban Metal Installations (UMI) fabricates and installs custom wood-and-steel site benches using Thermory, Accoya, and Ipe — thermally-modified and naturally durable wood species suited to outdoor and rooftop installations. Frames are built in-house in mild steel or stainless steel and finished to match the project.
Yes. UMI works from architect drawings, engineering sets, or a rough sketch, and can develop CAD models and fabrication-ready shop drawings in-house — coordinating directly with architects and designers from concept through final detail before anything gets cut.
Call or email with project details, drawings, or a rough scope — we'll follow up with fit and timeline.
